How a Flooring Job Runs

Most projects follow the same four steps. You will know what is happening each day.

  1. 1

    A conversation by phone

Tell us which rooms, what is there now and what bothers you about it. We will talk through materials and set a time to see the space.

  2. 2

    Measure and inspect

We measure every room, test the slab or subfloor for moisture and level, and note anything that needs prep. Then you get a written, itemized estimate.

  3. 3

    Installation day

We protect walkways, move furniture, remove old flooring and prepare the base. The new floor goes down with the right underlayment, expansion gaps and trim. Most rooms are usable again the same day or the next, depending on the material.

  4. 4

    Walkthrough and care

We walk the floor with you, put furniture back and leave clear notes on cleaning, protecting and caring for the material you chose.

Flooring We Install

We lay hardwood flooring, luxury vinyl plank and luxury vinyl tile, tile flooring, laminate flooring, carpet installation and carpet tile. Vinyl composition tile suits laundry rooms and other hard-working spaces, and our stair flooring work carries your chosen material from one level to the next. Before you pick, we explain how each option ages. Hardwood rewards gentle cleaning and steady humidity. Vinyl and tile handle spills well but depend on a flat, dry base. If part of your current floor is still sound, we will tell you, and plan around it where that makes sense.

What Moves the Price of Your Flooring Project

Room size matters, but it rarely tells the whole story. Layout, removal and the condition of the slab can shift a price as much as the material itself. Here is what we weigh, so your estimate makes sense when you see it.

We measure on site, check the subfloor, and then give you your quote by phone with each part listed. No line is padded, and we explain anything that is not obvious.

Square footage and layout
Open, rectangular rooms go quickly. Closets, angled walls, hallways and lots of doorways add cutting time and waste.
The material you choose
Solid hardwood, porcelain tile, vinyl plank, laminate and carpet each carry different material and labor costs. Patterned tile layouts and herringbone wood take longer to set than straight runs.
Taking out the old floor
Old carpet and pad roll up and leave in short order. Ceramic bonded to the slab with thinset, or vinyl held down with adhesive, has to be chipped and stripped off by hand, which adds hours of labor and a heavy load of debris for disposal.
Subfloor condition
Most homes in the area sit on concrete slabs, and a slab that is out of level or holding moisture needs grinding, leveling compound or a vapor barrier before a floor goes down. This prep is what keeps the finished floor flat for years.
Stairs and transitions
Stair treads, risers and nosings are cut and fitted one at a time. Transitions between rooms and materials add trim pieces and careful fitting.

A Flooring Company That Thinks About Year Ten

Flooring Sugar Land installs floors in your home with an eye on how they will look and feel long after the first week. We would rather spend an extra hour leveling a slab than come back to a floor that clicks, lifts or cracks along a grout line.

We also try to keep you from replacing more than you need. If the tile in your kitchen is solid and only the bedroom carpet is worn, we will say so. Good flooring is an investment, and part of our job is helping you protect it.

How We Work on Your Floors

A floor lasts as long as the work underneath it and the care it gets afterward. We put our time into both.

  1. 01

We look below before we quote

We check the subfloor for flatness, moisture and loose spots before recommending anything. Most problems that show up years later, like hollow tiles or gapping planks, start with a base nobody looked at.

  2. 02

    Material matched to the room

A mudroom, a nursery and a formal dining room ask different things of a floor. We talk through pets, kids, sunlight and how often you mop, then suggest materials that will hold up to that life rather than the one in a showroom photo.

  3. 03

    Estimates you can read

Your estimate lists the flooring, underlayment, trim, prep work and removal as separate lines. If something changes once old flooring comes up, we show you what we found and talk it over before doing more.

  4. 04

Care advice that fits the floor

When the job is done, we walk you through what to use on your new floor and what to avoid. Felt pads, the right cleaner and a humidity range for wood do more for a floor's lifespan than almost anything else.

  5. 05

    A tidy, protected house

We cover walkways, move furniture with care and clear away old flooring and scraps. You get your rooms back clean and ready to use.

Flooring Questions We Hear Most

How much will new flooring cost for my home?

It depends on the material, the size and layout of the rooms, what has to be removed and the condition of the subfloor. We do not quote a number without seeing the space, because slab prep alone can change the job. After we measure and inspect, you get a line-item estimate so you can see exactly where the money goes.

Is hardwood a good choice in a humid climate?

It can be, with the right product and some care. Engineered hardwood handles humidity swings better than solid wood, and a vapor barrier over a concrete slab is important. Keeping indoor humidity fairly steady with your air conditioning goes a long way toward preventing gaps and cupping.

Should I pick luxury vinyl plank or laminate?

Luxury vinyl plank is waterproof, which makes it a strong fit for kitchens, baths and homes with pets. Laminate has a harder wear layer and resists scratches well, but standing water can swell its core. We will look at the rooms you have in mind and tell you which will hold up better there.

Can you install over my existing floor?

Sometimes. Vinyl or laminate can go over flat tile that is firmly stuck down, which saves removal time. If the old floor is loose, cracked or uneven, it has to come up so the new floor does not inherit its problems. We decide after checking it, not before.

Do I need to move my furniture?

We move standard furniture as part of the job and put it back when we finish. We ask that you clear small items, electronics and anything fragile from shelves and surfaces beforehand. Pianos, safes and very heavy pieces are worth mentioning when we first talk.

How long does installation take?

Most single rooms are finished in a day. A whole floor of vinyl plank or laminate often takes two to four days, while tile takes longer because thinset and grout need time to cure. We give you a realistic schedule with your estimate.

Will you tell me if I only need part of my floor replaced?

Yes. If the tile in one room is solid and only the carpet down the hall is worn, we will say so. Replacing sound flooring just to match is rarely necessary, though we will point it out when a transition would look awkward. You decide what gets replaced.

How do I keep my new floor looking good?

Put felt pads under furniture legs, use mats at entry doors and clean with a product made for your flooring type. Avoid steam mops on wood and laminate. We leave care notes specific to your floor after every job.
